Leadership
The school’s leaders have established an outstanding school and qualities of leadership are at the heart of its priorities. At the core of our approach is a deep belief in self-improvement. We expect leaders to be self-critical, self-aware and selfless, understanding their strengths and making a commitment to personal growth. We appoint leaders who are wholly and absolutely committed to creating rigour and excellence. Leaders are expected to have endurance, wisdom, stamina and insight. They work tirelessly and to an exacting set of leadership standards. Growing and developing leadership is a cornerstone of the school’s philosophy. Leaders seek to lead in a manner which combines an unflinching commitment to standards with appropriate personal warmth.
The school has adopted much of the SSAT’s Deep Structure and the Deeps form the fundamental framework for the Leadership Team. The quality of leadership has been written about by OFSTED and features in The Good Schools Guide.
'The Head's leadership is charismatic, inspirational and transformational and is enhanced by the powerful and complementary skills of the Associate Head.' OFSTED
'A school which has gone rapidly from "could try harder" to outstanding in most departments under a dynamic and inspiring Head'. The Good Schools Guide
The Head, Colin Hall, coheres an industrious and talented team, a balance of experienced colleagues and young talent. David Chappell, the Associate Head, has worked alongside Colin Hall since the 1990s; he is leading the rebuild of the school. This professional partnership is unique, is well commented on and used as a model for other institutions. Amanda Redfearn has shared much of this joint history of success since 1996 and provides the lead on staffing matters. The school’s student support structure is led by Ross Wilson; its Sixth Form by Richard Northover; its curriculum and performance by Daniel Seed; its specialism by Michael Crow.
