Biology is the study of life. At Holland Park, students study the many concepts contained within this definition, including anatomy, physiology, botany, microbiology, biochemistry and biotechnology. We aim to enable students to develop an empathy with the environment we live in and to recognise the value of and responsible use of Biology in society. The course enables students to develop skills in experimental techniques including design, observation, handling and evaluating skills, logical thinking and written and oral expression. The practical element of the course involves a range of different biological techniques such as microscopy, biochemical testing, chromatography and other laboratory skills. Practical elements are incorporated into the course at all available opportunities. At A2 students also study ecology, neuroscience and plant biology.
