Mathematics evolved from counting, calculation, measurement and the study of the shapes and motions of physical objects. The applications of these ideas are used in many fields including natural science, engineering, medicine and economics. At Holland Park, throughout the AS and A2 course, we study various different applications of mathematics. Core Mathematics makes up the majority of the course and includes algebra and functions, coordinate geometry, sequences and series, differentiation, integration, trigonometry and vectors. We also study mechanics, which involves trying to develop mathematical models in mechanics, vectors and kinematics of a moving particle. Finally, in Statistics we study probability, the representation and summary of data, correlation and regression, variables and normal distributions.
