Appointed in September 2000, Colin Hall was charged by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea with the task of rebuilding – literally and metaphorically – the fortunes of the school. The early years were less than straightforward as leadership sought to alter decades of very different standards but the 2003 Ofsted declared leadership to be outstanding, as it did again in 2007, 2011, 2014 and 2020. The school’s current leadership team is a well-balanced collection of talents spanning David Chappell’s (Academy Head) long and rich experience (2001 – present) with the brilliance of bright Oxbridge graduates who will go on to enrich schools for decades to come. It is a potent combination. Whoever they are, whatever their provenance, all leaders are expected to be self-critical, self-aware and selfless with their pursuit of all that is exceptional. They are expected to possess endurance, stamina and a desire to be wise, to combine an unflinching commitment to the highest standards with appropriate personal warmth.
