Food Preparation and Nutrition

The purpose of the Food Preparation and Nutrition curriculum is to: equip students with the knowledge, skills, and understanding to make informed choices about food, health, and nutrition, whilst also developing practical cooking competence and an appreciation of food science and global cuisines.

Students in Years 8 and 9 are given an introduction to Food and Nutrition through the carousel course. As such, in each year, students will have six double lessons dedicated to the study of Food and Nutrition. The is a wholly practical course.

The GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition is an exciting and creative course which focuses on practical cooking skills to ensure students develop a thorough understanding of nutrition, food provenance and the working characteristics of food materials. At its heart, this qualification focuses on nurturing students’ practical cookery skills to give them a strong understanding of nutrition.
