If you enjoyed the range of literature you studied for GCSE English and you read widely, then you should consider this course. The changing syllabus allows for a much greater range of literature to be studied including important twentieth century novels by authors such as Ian McEwen and F. Scott Fitzgerald. Students will also study the tragic and Gothic genres across a range of texts and explore pre-twentieth century poetry. We consider texts in detail and learn to debate different opinions about them. All students are taught by two teachers to provide a variety of learning experiences. There is an active approach to learning involving whole group discussion, small group and pair work, oral presentations and research. We aim to create independent learners at AS and A2 believing that this is a vital element of development at this stage, especially in preparation for university and beyond. Students are supported by provision of outside speakers, theatre and film trips and visits to museums and exhibitions. Students will also benefit from our partnership with the Prince's Trust; this exciting relationship offers students opportunities to collaborate with literary experts.
