Physical Education provides an
opportunity to participate in the study of human movement, performance
and behaviour in relation to sport and recreation. The course takes a
multi-disciplinary approach and is based on the interaction between the
theory and practice of Physical Education. The OCR specification aims to
provide students with the knowledge and understanding to improve their
own level of performance. This is done through applying anatomy and
physiology to the understanding of movement and skills in sport. We also
study the history of Physical Education and links between psychology
and performance. The course also allows students to choose two
activities from an extensive range including athletics, football,
tennis, golf, mountain walking, sailing and skiing. We expect
participation from students outside lesson times, assisting with school
clubs, events and playing for Sixth Form teams. Students need the
ability to apply scientific, contemporary and historical knowledge of
sport towards practical activities. A high standard of practical
sporting performance is beneficial.
