At Holland Park, we
follow the AQA Religious Studies specification, which focuses on modules
involving Philosophy and Ethics. Philosophy and Ethics are concerned
with understanding how people should live, what sorts of things exist
and what comprises their essential natures, what counts as genuine
knowledge and what the correct principles of reasoning are. We study
abstract philosophical arguments that seek to address issues such as the
existence of God and the soul, the relationship between religion and
science and the explanations for miracles and religious experiences. We
also explore ethical issues such as environmental ethics and medical
ethics and apply key theories to these. We consider the ethical theories
of Kant, Bentham and John Stuart Mill and consider critically the value
of deoritological and teleological ethics.
