Student Support
The school co-ordinates support for students in an area of school called DEEP SUPPORT (part of the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust’s DEEPs structure). Deep Support co-ordinates arrangements for: pastoral care, student welfare, health, school attendance, behaviour and liaison with other agencies. Deep Support is led by a member of the school’s Leadership Team.
Guiding students’ academic well-being is the responsibility of DEEP EXPERIENCE. Deep Experience co-ordinates, amongst other things, arrangements for: Gifted and Talented, students’ curriculum, assessment, data, students’ views, FROG (our Virtual Learning Environment), Extended school (15.15 to 17.15), the Library, Parents’ Days, Parent Teacher Groups, Work Experience and holiday provision.
Specialist help is available for students whose first language is not English.
A range of staff make provision for students with special needs. Our support is focused on individual needs and we use a range of specialists to support students. For those students who require additional learning support, we have Learning Support Assistants who may aid students in the classroom or give some help on a short term withdrawal basis. Ms O'Connor is the school's SENCO. For those students for whom behaviour is the issue, we have a range of strategies and support programmes led by our Inclusion Team. For the most able we have a range of approaches to ensure that their potential is fully realised. Each subject area has extension work and a number of visits and activities are on offer for these students.
