Media statement - Tuesday 1st February 2022

A spokesperson for Holland Park School said:

“Colin Hall, headteacher of Holland Park School, is bringing forward his retirement and will not be in school any longer. Arwel Jones, a well-known school leader in London will step in to provide strong support for the school.

“Mr Jones, who starts tomorrow, is a superb and extremely experienced school leader who is a National Leader of Education and a council member of the Association of School and College Leaders. He joins us from Brentside High School, a large inner London school which he inherited when it had fewer than 1,000 students, poor academic outcomes, low attendance and very high levels of exclusion. He transformed the school during his time as its headteacher – it became over-subscribed, was often approached by the Department for Education as an example of good practice in attendance and low exclusion rates, and achieved consistently strong academic outcomes at both age 16 and 18.

“Mr Hall has served Holland Park School for over 20 years, leading the school to successive judgements of outstanding by Ofsted. We thank Mr Hall for this service. In welcoming Mr Jones to our school community, we have every confidence that, supported by the governing body, he will ensure a high quality of education across all aspects of school life during this period of transition. The students we are privileged to serve continue to be our absolute focus, with their interests at the heart of all that we do and the wellbeing of our pupils and staff our foremost priority.”
